Mahikeng Local Municipality confers progress report
Honourable Executive Major Councillor KB Diakanyo recently hosted a media briefing to share on work done since she assumed office on 17 August 2016.
“We are happy to announce that our municipality is providing services as guided by the provincial five concretes. The municipality has adopted a five year Integrated Development Plan from 2017 to 2022, which is reviewed annually modelled around the VTSD approach”, explained Diakanyo.
The mayor further indicated the following five local government key performance areas which are adopted by the municipality: basic service delivery; institutional transformation and development; local economic development; financial management and viability; good governance.
The municipal administration is structured into six directorates which impacts on the five key performance areas of local government. Diakanyo also elaborated on the ongoing and implemented service delivery projects. A total of 12,951 jobs is expected to be created between now and 30 June 2022 from the various service delivery projects under these different directorates.
On responding to a question from one of the media representatives, the Municipal Manager Mr Thabo Mokwena indicated that most of the jobs will be on contract basis. Mokwena further pointed out that there will also be opportunities for permanent employment.
